Am I Alone?
Did you know there are some folks out there that do not eat while watching a movie? Yeah, it's true.
We had the in-laws over for dinner last weekend and after the usual amenities of staying in touch regarding his post skeletal replacements with alloy and my never ending bouts with the joints (I told ya I'm old).
I heard that he went fishing the day before and thought I would ask did he catch anything. A normal question for those who do that sort of thing but it led to movies and food. How did we get there? I don't know. OK, I remember, My Mary was bringing in spaghetti and garlic bread (good stuff). My mind went to "this would be great with Clint Eastwood and those spaghetti westerns" and the conversation swayed to movies and food. So the question was "what was the last movie you saw and you were eating what?" I was sitting in my chair absolutely surprised with his answer "nothing, oh I think we had coffee and some hard candy" and his wife walks in from the kitchen and asked "what's going on?"
I brought her up to speed and her answer was the same. They had some euro coffee and a little bit of hard candy. THAT'S IT!
My Mary cuts in and added "honey, not everyone is like you where you have to have something to eat while watching a movie". I was flabbergasted.
I quickly recovered to my dignified demeanor and mildly said "oh".
Picture this, it's Friday evening, sitting on the couch and everyone has a TV tray and on it is 2 muster dogs with fritos and a tall bottle of Bubble Up, I must have been around 12 or 13 yrs old. We're watching Wild, Wild, West with Robert Conrad and Ross Martin in September 1965 but my point is it was food and movies (baby boomer here). They are inseparable. There are some movies where there is a requirement to have while watching it. The last movie I saw was Fail-Safe, no, not the original which was 1964 with Henry Fonda, I'm talking about the one with George Cloony in 2000. The book was good too. Any who, my Mary and I were on the way to the grocery store so this was a good time to do this right.
American planes are sent to deliver a nuclear attack on Moscow, but it's a mistake due to an electrical malfunction. Possible all-out war, yeah, one of those days where you would like to say out loud "CHEESE AND RICE!" I know that's a little strong but when you gotta say it you just have to let it out or its going to stick in your craw.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not one who pigs out every time there's a movie (hmm). Although there is a time or two where you know this is going to be a humdinger. It's like when I'm going to take my Mary out for dinner. I want to shave & shower and put on a nice bright flowered Hawaiian shirt, hair pulled back in a tail. Looking sharp as a tack, Dapper Dan, a fine looking Lad that I am, so as I was saying for those who are the likes of me, one must prepare to be entertained proper. Now lets look at this intelligently, You can go to the kitchen and open the frig and see a few leftovers of spaghetti sauce with out the pasta, egg salad, fruit, milk, you scratch your bum while thinking and mumble something primordial "huh".
What you see is what you get (wyswyg?) what you need is a plan. You have the DVD/VHS or you have a DVR. Select a time to get away to a world of your choosing and be entertained proper man. Do it for you lad, do it for the little woman and tiny tim, do it for you mamma in Rancho Cucamonga, make everyone proud.
